Psychiatric
Evaluations

Your evaluation begins with a conversation.

We take time to listen to what brought you in, what has been difficult, what has changed, and what you would like help with. You do not need to know exactly how to explain everything, and you do not need to have all the answers before your appointment.
Our aim is to create an environment where you feel heard, respected, and involved in decisions about your care.

What Does a Psychiatric Evaluation Cover?

  • Your current emotional and mental health concerns
  • Changes in your mood, thoughts, sleep, energy, or concentration
  • Your personal and family mental health history
  • Previous therapy, psychiatric care, or hospital treatment
  • Current and past medications, including how they have affected you
  • Physical health conditions that may be relevant to your mental wellbeing
  • Alcohol or substance use, where appropriate
  • Relationships, work, school, family life, and other sources of stress or support

FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS

Therapy is not only for people experiencing a crisis or living with a diagnosed mental health condition. It can also be helpful if you are dealing with stress, relationship challenges, difficult emotions, major life changes, low self-confidence, or simply want to understand yourself better. Therapy provides a supportive space to reflect, develop healthier coping strategies, and work toward meaningful personal growth.

That is completely okay. You do not need to arrive at your session knowing exactly what to say or where to begin. Your therapist or practitioner can help guide the conversation with questions and support you in exploring what you are experiencing at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Sometimes simply starting with how you have been feeling recently is enough.

It is normal to feel unsure or nervous about your first therapy experience. Your first session is usually focused on getting to know you, understanding what brought you to therapy, and discussing what you would like support with. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about how the process works. You are not expected to share everything at once, and you can move at a pace that feels right for you.

Progress in therapy can look different for everyone. You may begin to notice changes in how you understand your emotions, respond to difficult situations, communicate with others, manage stress, or make decisions. You and your therapist can regularly review your goals and discuss what feels helpful, what may need to change, and whether the approach continues to meet your needs.

Yes. Many people receive therapy while also taking medication prescribed by a qualified healthcare professional. Therapy and medication can sometimes be used together as part of a broader treatment plan. It is important to keep your prescribing doctor informed about your treatment and to follow their medical advice regarding your medication.
